The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially announced a 10-day window to allow students from the 2024 KCSE cohort to revise their earlier choices of courses and institutions. This announcement comes as many students seek better placement options that align with their evolving career interests and academic goals.
According to KUCCPS, the inter-institutional transfer portal will go live on Monday, July 14, and will remain open until Wednesday, July 24, 2025. This gives applicants a limited but adequate opportunity to finalize changes. The changes, however, are strictly based on eligibility — only applicants who meet the required cut-off points for the courses and institutions they are targeting will be considered.
The KUCCPS transfer process is streamlined and takes place entirely online:
1.Initiation by Student: The applicant logs in to the KUCCPS student portal and applies for a transfer to a new institution or course.
2.Endorsement by Receiving Institution: The new institution reviews the request and, if accepted, endorses the transfer via its KUCCPS portal.
3.Release by Current Institution: The institution where the student was initially placed must formally release the student, again through the KUCCPS system.
4.Approval by KUCCPS: Once both institutions have approved, KUCCPS issues a transfer letter.
5.Admission into New Institution: The student downloads the transfer letter and presents it to the receiving institution, which then issues a fresh admission letter and joining instructions.
KUCCPS emphasized that both the releasing and receiving institutions will get official transfer reports through their portals.
In a directive to Vice-Chancellors and Directors of TVET institutions, KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome reminded institutions to rigorously comply with the program-specific cut-off points and subject requirements already published. This ensures fairness, transparency, and merit-based placement.
She also urged institutions to support applicants promptly during the process:
"This is to inform you of the timelines and to request that you accord the applicants timely support during this period."
This window is especially critical for students who may have made hasty or uninformed decisions during the initial course application phase. Whether they’re seeking a change due to academic strengths, career ambitions, or logistical challenges such as location and affordability, this is a final chance to secure a more fitting educational path.
Applicants are advised to visit the KUCCPS official portal and begin the process early to avoid last-minute hitches. Delays or missing the deadline could mean sticking with an undesired placement or losing the academic year altogether.
