Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, has issued a stern warning to clubs, event organisers, and churches over increasing incidents of noise pollution across the city.
The announcement was made on Saturday, July 9, following a surge in public complaints, particularly from residents in Pipeline Estate.
According to Mosiria, several clubs located in Aston Villa and Emirates areas of Pipeline have become persistent noise offenders. The county has now launched a targeted crackdown on these establishments.
“Noise pollution has come back, especially in Pipeline... we shall respond to any complaint because we want to restore order,” Mosiria stated.
Mosiria also warned event organisers, especially those operating near residential areas, to adhere to the set sound limit of 35 decibels.
Failure to comply may result in the event being halted by county officers.
“Ensure that you don't make noise that may affect your fans and the event itself,” he cautioned.
The crackdown will also extend to churches, particularly those that hold overnight prayer services known as ‘Keshas’.
Mosiria advised churches to either soundproof their premises or seek approval from nearby residents if they must use loud sound systems.
“Please make sure that you do not play loud music. If you have to, then soundproof your church,” he advised.
In a related action, Mosiria revealed that a motor vehicle garage in Runda Estate was recently shut down due to repeated noise complaints.
Despite multiple warnings, the garage continued its noisy operations, prompting the county to close it and deploy security officers to enforce the closure.
“Every worker should carry all their belongings home. We will ensure the gate remains completely shut,” Mosiria emphasized.
