Kenya’s electoral machinery is officially warming up. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has rolled out a wave of short-term job opportunities across the country as part of its early preparations for the 2027 General Election and the November by-elections.
In a notice released on Saturday morning, IEBC revealed that it will recruit thousands of temporary staff members who will support voter registration, election logistics, education campaigns, and polling operations in every region. The commission confirmed that successful applicants will be engaged on a daily wage structure ranging from Ksh1,000 to Ksh2,500, depending on the specific role and level of responsibility.
IEBC’s plan includes a variety of positions spread across counties, constituencies, and Huduma Centres. Each role carries specific pay rates and duties:
-Voter Registration Clerks: Based in 57 Huduma Centres nationwide, they’ll guide citizens through registration and update the voters’ roll at Ksh1,500 per day.
-Polling and Counting Clerks: Will support the voting process and tallying exercises, earning Ksh1,000 daily.
-ICT Clerks and Ward-Based Voter Educators: Each will receive Ksh1,500 daily, managing technical and civic education duties.
-County Voter Educators: Tasked with large-scale civic outreach, these officers will earn Ksh2,500 per day — the highest among the advertised roles.
-Constituency Voter Educators: Earn Ksh2,000 daily, focusing on localized voter sensitization.
-Presiding Officers and Electoral Trainers: Each will take home Ksh2,000 per day.
-Deputy Presiding Officers: Paid Ksh1,800 daily.
-Logistics Officers: Earn Ksh1,500 daily, supporting transportation and resource coordination.
IEBC emphasized that applications are open to all Kenyan citizens who meet specific qualifications. Candidates must:
-Be of high integrity and strictly non-partisan.
-Hold at least a Diploma or Degree from a recognized institution.
-Be computer literate.
-Reside within the constituency or ward where they are applying.
-Be available for the full duration of the voter registration and election exercise.
The commission further advised applicants to review the full job details, requirements, and responsibilities through the official IEBC recruitment portal before submission.
Interested candidates are required to submit their applications online before October 16, 2025. IEBC has encouraged applicants to act promptly, noting that late submissions will not be considered. All roles are strictly temporary and will last only for the duration of the electoral and voter registration exercise.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon underscored that the recruitment drive is central to ensuring a smooth and credible electoral process. By hiring locally based clerks, educators, and officers, the commission aims to enhance transparency, improve voter engagement, and streamline logistics ahead of the national poll season.
With the 2027 General Election drawing closer, this initiative not only creates short-term employment but also strengthens the foundation for a free, fair, and efficient electoral process.
