President William Ruto has appealed to football fans attending the upcoming Kenya vs Zambia match to uphold order and follow the rules of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The match is scheduled for Sunday, August 17, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Speaking during a meeting with Kisii and Nyamira leaders at State House Nairobi on August 15, Ruto emphasized that while the Harambee Stars are ready to perform, fans must support the team in a responsible manner.
“Let’s not cause distractions. Let’s ensure we follow the CAF rules. This is important for fairness and our national image,” said the President.
To avoid overcrowding and potential sanctions from CAF, President Ruto announced the creation of six official fan zones across Nairobi. These areas will allow fans without tickets to enjoy the match on large outdoor screens, under police security.
“Those who can’t make it to Kasarani will still have a chance to watch from different parts of the city,” Ruto explained.
For fans who won’t be at the stadium, these are the six designated fan zones:
1.Uhuru Park
2.Lucky Summer (Ngomongo Area, behind Kasarani Stadium)
Dandora Stadium
3.Utalii (Stima Club)
4.Jacaranda Grounds
5.Kibera DC Grounds
Each zone is equipped to handle large crowds safely and responsibly.
President Ruto praised Kenyans for their enthusiastic support of Harambee Stars but reminded them of the importance of discipline:
“We have to support our team within the parameters allowed by CAF. Let’s not spoil our chances by being unruly.”
He called for orderliness from ticket-holding fans attending the match physically and encouraged others to use the fan zones.
