TikTok revealed that out of approximately 450,000 videos flagged for violating platform rules, a staggering 92.1% were removed before users even had the chance to view them. Some of these videos were taken down within just 24 hours of being posted.
This rapid response is made possible by TikTok's integration of cutting-edge automated moderation technologies alongside the expertise of thousands of dedicated trust and safety professionals working around the clock.
TikTok highlighted that its proactive detection rate now stands at an impressive 99% globally, which means the platform is more efficient than ever at identifying and addressing harmful content before it reaches the audience. This includes the removal of misinformation, hate speech, violent material, and other content that could negatively impact the community.
During the first quarter of 2025, TikTok banned approximately 43,000 accounts in Kenya for violating the platform’s Community Guidelines. This crackdown reflects TikTok’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all users. Beyond Kenya, TikTok also halted 19 million live rooms worldwide to prevent inappropriate content during LIVE sessions, underscoring its vigilance in moderating real-time content.
TikTok has intensified its LIVE Monetisation Guidelines to better define the types of content eligible for monetisation. This move aims to support creators while ensuring that the LIVE environment remains safe and free from harmful or inappropriate material. These guidelines help creators understand what is acceptable and encourage responsible behaviour during their broadcasts.
In a bid to further protect vulnerable users, TikTok has partnered with Childline Kenya, a leading child protection organization, to provide expert support for young people who report content related to sensitive issues such as suicide, self-harm, hate, or harassment. This partnership enhances TikTok’s efforts to create a safer platform and offer timely help to those in need.
TikTok urges all users to actively report any suspicious content, harmful comments, or accounts violating the platform’s standards. Reports can be made easily through the TikTok Help Centre, helping the platform quickly respond to potential issues and uphold community safety
