In a major escalation of the ongoing war in Eastern Europe, Russia has carried out the largest aerial assault on Ukraine since the conflict began in 2022. Over the weekend, Russian forces launched a barrage of 367 drones and missiles, targeting numerous Ukrainian regions. The scale and coordination of the attack were described as unprecedented by Ukrainian officials. The Ukrainian Air Force reported civilian casualties of at least 12, with scores more injured, and extensive damage to residential infrastructure.
This widespread attack spanned most regions of the country, with air raid sirens wailing throughout the night. Firefighters and emergency responders have been working tirelessly across cities like Kyiv, Dnipro, and Lviv, where power outages and building collapses have been reported. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the strikes “a test of Ukrainian resolve,” while urging the international community to increase military support and implement harsher sanctions on Russia.
Trump Breaks Silence, Criticizes Putin’s Actions
In an unexpected but sharp departure from his usual diplomatic tone toward the Kremlin, former U.S. President Donald Trump publicly rebuked Russian President Vladimir Putin via a Truth Social post. Trump, who had previously described Putin in more measured terms, declared that the Russian leader had “gone absolutely crazy.”
Trump wrote, “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers.” He further warned that Putin’s aggressive military ambitions in Ukraine would ultimately “lead to the downfall of Russia.”

Trump also addressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, suggesting that while global support for Ukraine is vital, the Ukrainian leader’s constant appeals for aid and sanctions should be more strategically presented. He stated that the current approach might alienate international allies rather than consolidate them.
Despite Trump’s criticism of Putin, he stopped short of laying out a detailed policy proposal or strategy to end the war, maintaining his longstanding position that only “strong leadership” and “direct negotiations” can end the bloodshed.
